Telehealth Therapy during COVID and Beyond
You are probably familiar with what in-person therapy is like, but might be less familiar with how telehealth works, or what it even is. Telehealth, also known as “online therapy” or “virtual therapy,” refers to therapy that is done through video call technology.
I provide telehealth appointments through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video call platform. It works similarly to Zoom, but with added security to help protect your private information. You can use a smartphone, tablet or computer for your sessions.
Telehealth allows you to have your session in any private location that has a strong enough internet connection. That could be your home, your office, your car, or a secluded outdoor space.
How to Access Your Sessions
Accessing the call is very simple. If you’re on a computer, all you need to do is click the link I send you for your call, which will open in your internet browser. You’ll give access to the camera and microphone on the device you are using (so I can see and hear you), and enter your name. With a simple click of a button, you’ll enter the call, and I will join you at the time of your appointment.
If you’d like to use a phone or tablet, I will send you the link to download my telehealth app to your device. You’ll enter your video call link into the app, then follow the same steps as above. Easy!
From there, the process of therapy with me via telehealth is exactly the same as it is in-person.
Benefits of Online Therapy
The greatest benefit of telehealth is convenience. You save the time and energy it would take to travel to and from my office, which allows for more flexible scheduling of appointments. You may also have a greater degree of privacy, as you don’t have to worry about running into people you may know on the way into or out of my building.
Research has shown that telehealth is just as effective as in-person therapy. If you have experienced in-person therapy before, online therapy may feel a little different at first. I find that it becomes more comfortable and familiar as you gain more experience with it.
If you have any questions or concerns about how your appointments are feeling, I am happy to talk with you and make any adjustments needed. I am comfortable with telehealth and know lots of tips and tricks that will help provide you with the best possible experience.
